Frankincense and myrrh, two venerated
gifts sourced from the gum resins of trees - the Boswellia
and the Commiphora, respectively – make remarkable
partners in healing! Both have been used
throughout history in perfume, incense, aromatherapy, and medicine, particularly
Chinese medicine. Their anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, antioxidant, and more properties
deal with issues with many different health
conditions, many that Chiropractic Care sees in our West Palm Beach chiropractic patients who may
want to know more!
THE COMBINATION: Frankincense and Myrrh
Chinese medicine admires frankincense
and myrrh for their wide-ranging positive
health effects. Used in combination, their anti-inflammatory and
analgesic effects and significantly for anti-tumor effects stopped
growth of U266 multiple myeloma cells. (1) In Chinese medicine, frankincense-myrrh
are parts of an anti-tumor drug for various
cancers with the newest research revealing
its effect on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). How? By monitoring
pathological processes like cytokine-receptor binding and pathways and affecting
the blood vessels that feed tumors in HCC. Tumor
volume was reduced, and pathological structure was diminished
with frankincense and myrrh treatment. (2) Low dose frankincense/myrrh controlled
urotheilial wound healing to improve symptoms of acute interstitial
cystitis/painful bladder syndrome. (3) The
frankincense/myrrh combo is a
winning/healing one!
NEUROPATHIC PAIN
Chiropractic Care welcomes combinations of
treatments to help our West Palm Beach chiropractic patients looking for
healing. Chinese medicine addresses diabetic neuropathy, a critical
complication of diabetes and trigger of kidney disease,
by regulating pathways having to do with the
glucose/lipid metabolism regulation, antioxidation, anti-fibrosis, anti-inflammation, etc. (4) Chinese medicine treatment of neuropathic
pain commonly involves the frankincense-myrrh combination as it is described
as having the ability to stimulate blood and dissipate
blood stasis. The combination
was tested and found to reduce neuropathic
pain likely related to neuro-inflammatory agents TLR4 and MyD88 and to inhibition
of TRPV1 and inflammatory factor expression. (5). Chiropractic Care
knows all this detail may not be “up your alley” of wanting
to know, but we want to share
the whole picture if only to highlight how well frankincense-myrrh eases neuropathic pain, a great effect!
